Philip Lumbang & Ernesto Yerena: “Dead Relatives”

Black Book Gallery’s current exhibition is entitled “Dead Relatives,” a collaboration by two artists from Southern California, Phil Lumbang and Ernesto Yerena.

“Animals are our relatives. Dead Relatives is a special look at death, as a satire. Usually a taboo subject in many cultures, Mexican traditions revere death. Death is celebrated, it is humorous.”1

I can’t get enough of these stoic cartoon animals with their Dia De Los Muertos-inspired imagery and graffiti-wheatpaste backdrops.
