Maurizio Anzeri: Embroidered Photo-Sculptures

Maurizio Anzerio is an Italian-born artist known for his enthralling “photo-sculptures,” vintage photos culled from flea markets that are then embroidered to dazzling effect. I came across his art via an interview Anzerio did with Yatzer.

It’s fascinating to me how Anzeri clearly honors the moment captured and yet simultaneously explodes it into another dimension—a wistful glance frozen in time is released in a furious oscillation of energy, on the way to becoming something else entirely.
