Nick Gentry: Floppy Disk Portraits

Remember floppy disks? Nick Gentry does.

This London-based artist uses them as a canvas in his painted portraits, in doing so exploring humanity’s ongoing integration with technology and the issues of identity, life cycles and waste culture inherent within.

Even as one observes the faces of his subjects, one cannot help but ponder what personal information is encased within each painted disk, fragments of identity that are enshrined and at the same time irrevocably lost as each generation engages and subsequently discards the technological trappings of the day.
