Chain Sculptures by Seo Young Deok
Seo Young Deok is a South Korean sculptor whose works are created by welding together thousands of tiny metal chain links.
His massive, solemn figures are meticulously put together, and yet convey a sense of fleetingness—the solemn, fragmented faces and torsos seemingly at risk of dissolving back into the tangled ether from which they came. A reflection on the brevity of individual consciousness, perhaps? Or a meditation on the challenges inherent to living in an increasingly industrialized society?
