Activision Patches from 1980

Activision was founded in 1979 and was the first third party software company for the Atari 2600.

The patches below are from 1980 and were awarded to young Atari enthusiasts for attaining certain goals within their games. You met the challenge, took a photo of your score on the TV screen, and in return Activision would send you the patch and a letter of congratulations.

The patches really convey a sense of adventure, and I love how minimal and psychedelic they are, aided by a playful use of perspective and the color bands of what was then the Activision logo. These images are from Art of the Arcade, you can view more there as well as at AtariAge.

If anyone knows who designed these patches, let me know and I will give credit where credit is due. Google (aka “The Oracle”) isn’t yielding much.
