RUIN is an animated story produced by OddBall Animation, an agency based in Los Angeles. The first installment was directed by Wes Ball with an original score by Kevin Riepl.

The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic future and follows a grimy, mysterious drifter navigating through the vine-encrusted remains of what was once a sprawling metropolis.

As you can see this first short takes a few pages out of the Terminator playbook, but is nevertheless a fun romp through lush scenery, engaging action and surprisingly fluid animation.

The short was created using a combination of Modo, Lightwave, After Effects and Premiere.

The OddBall website has a bunch of nifty stills, tests and renderings from the various stages of the project, which is ongoing. It’s fascinating to sift through these materials and get a feel for how the various elements were put together.
