The Simpsons’ latest annual Treehouse of Horror aired yesterday and who better to usher it in than director Guillermo del Toro, who was invited to provide his take on the classic intro and “couch gag.”

The sequence is sure to send film geeks and horror buffs into a frenzy, packed as it is with a multitude of classic and obscure cult references, including allusions to some of del Toro’s own films. Multiple viewings are a must! The video is below:

The video is the latest in a series of guest-directed intros. Past guests have included Banksy, Bill Plympton and the team from Robot Chicken.
