Terrible Exaltation: Byronic by Boris Pelcer

Boris Pelcer is a Bosnian-born artist & designer based out of Milwaukee, WI. His portfolio spans the gamut of personal and commercial work and encompasses various creative fields including art direction, branding, graphic design, typography and illustration.

Byronic is a series of paintings created using a combination of acrylic paint & digital illustration, with the goal of capturing “the dark mysticism of Byronic characters:” 1

“Byronic is a type of character, named after the English Romantic poet Lord Byron. Byronic characters, incapable of love, or capable only of an impossible love, suffer endlessly. They are solitary, languid & their condition exhausts them. To feel alive it must be in the terrible exaltation of a brief & destructive action”
– Boris Pelcer, quoting The Rebel by Albert Camus
