Personalized Prosthetic Legs by Bespoke Innovations
Bespoke Innovations creates custom covers for prosthetic limbs—”fairings”—that elevate otherwise utilitarian accoutrements into personalized, wearable art.
Each fairing is created using a combination of 3D scanning technology to recover the contours of the lost limb and a collaborative design process in which the user selects from an array of forms, patterns, materials to personalize the end product completely to them.
The company was founded in 2009 by an Industrial Designer and an Orthopedic Surgeon, with their credo stated as follows:
“Each of our bodies is unique, as are our tastes and styles. Humans are anything but one-size-fits-all, and we want to recognize that fact. We achieve this by creating products that allow our clients to personalize their prosthetic legs. Our hope is to enable our clients to emotionally connect with their prosthetic limbs, and wear them confidently as a form of personal expression. Our products turn something ordinary into something amazing.” 1
Fairings currently cost between $4,000 and $6,000 depending on the complexity of design and finish materials chosen.
